Philanthropy

On A Missiongrouopshot

At Sundial we believe in sharing – not only the good deeds of solar but also the benefits we realize as a successful business.  To that end we actively support many charities and nonprofit organizations that fall in line with our philosophy, some of which are highlighted below.  If you like what we do and want to help out, please join us in supporting these causes and others like it.  You are also welcome to join us on the RYM climb and, on some occasions, also on the Sundial Team Adventures.   If you wish to learn more about our philanthropy, please contact Julie Martinez at:  julie2dance@aol.com

Sundial Annual Charity

Each year we pick a different Earth Science related charity to actively promote and support throughout the year.  Proceeds collected during our Team Adventure outings and the annual Ray Yeritsian Memorial Climb are sent directly to the charity.

Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation (CSWCF)  is a conservation and educational facility that rescues and cares for exotic animals in need. They also have a rehabilitation license for native wildlife. CSWCF has very strict protocols for safety, and optimal animal care.  They provide educational opportunities and activities for a wide variety of people including school groups, college and vet students, 4H groups, and continuing education for veterinarians.  Amazingly there are no paid administration salaries. Christine and Barry donate their time, land and funds to further their mission of advancing conservation through education.  All donations go directly to animal care, education, and conservation of wild endangered species.

Sundial Team Adventure

Unlike other typical companies, in the summer Sundial does not have a company picnic.  Instead, once or twice a year we sponsor an outing that takes staff, employees, reps, clients, and solar friends into the wild on a challenging and highly educational one or two-day adventure.  We hike lesser known paths and learn the the geology, biology, and ecology of the region.
Some past adventures:

  • Taylors Falls rock climbing
  • North Shore Canyoneering
  • Pipestone Native American Quarry
  • Jeffers Petroglyphs
  • Minnehaha Ice Climbing
  • The Brickyards Fossil Hunting
  • Cannon Falls Biking
  • North Shore Ice Climbing
  • Steger Sustainability Center volunteering

Ray Yeritsian Memorial Climb

The founding members of Sundial were all climbers and adventurers.  One of our best friends was Ray Yeritsian, an Armenian American whom I met on Mt Aconcagua in Argentina in 1998.  Ray and I became fast friends and had rewarding climbing adventures all around North America.  Sadly, in 2007 Ray died suddenly on his way to a mountain in Tibet.  In memory of Ray’s adventurous spirit Sundial hosts a climb every year in his honor.  Ray liked a challenge and that’s what the Ray Yeritsian Memorial (RYM) is all about.  It consists of a very challenging and long day of climbing, hiking, and adventuring.  The rule is it must be done in one shot – no camping or bivouacking on the way up or down on the climb proper.  The RYM is our primary fund-raising effort for the company charity for that year.  Sundial develops a formula to donate according to miles hiked and/or altitude gained and sponsors all those that show up.  Join us!
